Preliminary reports suggest that 27 people were taken to the hospital, aside from another 20 who were treated for lighter injuries at the scene. Initially, the police reported two serious injuries, including a child. When asked about an update on the number of casualties, Rotheram mentioned that he had not received direct updates but confirmed their ongoing communication with the police and emergency services.

In vector of investigations, the police have apprehended a 53-year-old man as the primary suspect. Whilst authorities have yet to determine whether it was an accident, medical emergency, or deliberate attack, terrorism as a motive hasn't been ruled out. The police have revealed that the suspect is a white British male from a local area.

Remarkably, the police faced backlash last summer following the dissembling of details about the suspect after a stabbing incident at a children's dance class in Southport. The ensuing misinformation caused far-right riots across the country. When queried regarding the police releasing details this time, Rotheram praised the Merseyside Police's efforts to quickly contain the situation and disseminate information accurately.

Investigations are ongoing, with the suspect currently in police custody for further questioning. Authorities are collecting evidence and exploring the driver's possible motives as they proceed with the case. Additionally, there is no indication that the incident is connected to a broader plot or involves any other suspects.

Information suggests that the driver allegedly pursued an ambulance, which had been given passage through a road block to handle a nearby medical emergency, leading to the removal of temporary road restrictions. The precise reasoning behind the driver's actions remains under investigation.
