Liverpool's Late Penalty Heartbreak in Champions League

Liverpool suffered a late blow as a penalty was overturned in their Champions League clash against Galatasaray. Meanwhile, Tottenham secured a point in a thrilling Arctic encounter, and Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Atletico Madrid all notched up impressive victories in the second round of matches.

In Istanbul, Liverpool looked set to secure a crucial away goal when a penalty was awarded late in the game. However, the decision was overturned, leaving the Reds with nothing to show for their efforts and condemned to a second straight loss in the Champions League standings. The game ended 1-0 in favour of the home side, with Osimhen's penalty proving decisive.

Up north, Tottenham faced Bodo/Glimt in a game played north of the Arctic Circle. The Londoners escaped with a point after a 2-2 draw, thanks to a late equaliser. The result leaves them with a point from two games in the league phase of the Champions League.

Real Madrid put in a dominant display against Kairat Almaty, running out 5-0 winners. Mbappe stole the show, scoring a hat-trick in a one-sided encounter.

Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid also recorded big wins. The Bavarians scored five goals in a 5-1 win away to Pafos, with Kane netting twice. Meanwhile, Atletico thumped Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1, with Griezmann scoring his 200th goal for the club.

In other results, Chelsea beat Benfica 1-0 thanks to an own goal from Richard Rios. Marseille also impressed, with Igor Paixão scoring twice in a 3-1 win over Ajax.

Looking ahead, Liverpool will face Chelsea away on Saturday, looking to bounce back from their Champions League disappointment. Tottenham will be targeting their first win in the competition when they take on Marseille next. Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Atletico Madrid will all be confident of maintaining their good form in the coming weeks.
