Liverpool Bid £110 Million for Newcastle United's Alexander Isak

Liverpool Football Club has made a bid of £110 million (plus add-ons) for Newcastle United's striker Alexander Isak, according to reports. However, Newcastle has rejected the offer, as it falls short of their reported asking price of £150 million.

Despite the rejection, the transfer remains "absolutely on" and "absolutely likely," with Liverpool maintaining interest and Isak reportedly eager for the move. If the deal goes through, it would shatter the current British transfer record for a player, which currently stands at around £100 million, paid for Jude Bellingham by Real Madrid in 2023.

Liverpool's recent transfer activity shows a focus on strengthening their forward line. In the same summer window, they signed Hugo Ekitike for approximately £80 million, indicating significant investment. However, no major sales have been reported yet to offset this outlay.

Eddie Howe, Newcastle United's manager, admitted there is "no chance" Alexander Isak will join the team in Asia, as he did not travel with the squad for their pre-season tour to the Far East.

Liverpool's strategy appears to be aimed at finalizing a deal for Isak if Newcastle’s price can be met. The club has also signed Milos Kerkez from AFC Bournemouth and goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia, as well as financing a move for Isak, despite questions about their financial position.

Meanwhile, Luis Diaz has left Liverpool for Bayern Munich in a deal worth €75 million (£65m). Diaz, who scored 41 goals in 148 appearances across all competitions, spent three-and-a-half seasons at Liverpool, winning the Premier League title during the 2024-25 season.

In other news, Trent Alexander-Arnold's move to Real Madrid has been expedited to allow him to appear at the FIFA Club World Cup. His salary is no longer part of Liverpool's wage bill. Liverpool have also recouped significant revenue nearing almost £200m from player sales since Richard Hughes became the club's sporting director.

Alexander Isak ranks at number four in our website's list of the best strikers in the world. Newcastle United were defeated 3-2 by Arsenal in a friendly at Singapore's National Stadium on Sunday, with no information about Isak's involvement in the match.
