Sophie Román Haug is set to make a strong comeback to the Women's Super League (WSL) following her injury recovery, ready to play a crucial role under new coach Gareth Taylor at Liverpool Women.

The new coaching regime at Liverpool Women has brought about fresh tactical approaches, with the team undergoing changes in formations and style for the 2025/26 WSL season. Haug's recent impressive scoring form and recovery have made her a central figure in Liverpool’s attacking lineup, poised to contribute significantly to the team's goal-scoring and overall success.

Early season performances have already demonstrated Haug's impact on the team, with her scoring a crucial goal in a 1-0 win for Liverpool[3]. This goal, along with her previous season's performance where she scored as many goals as Olivia Smith, the club's top scorer, shows Haug's potential to drive Liverpool Women's performance this season.

Last season, Liverpool ended up in seventh place, but under the guidance of Taylor, the team is aiming for a better performance. The new season kicks off at Anfield against Everton on September 7. Despite never enjoying a win over Everton in the Women's Super League in her time at the club, Haug is optimistic about the new season and the team's prospects.

On a personal note, Haug's goal is to represent Norway in the 2027 World Cup in Brazil. She has already made history by scoring a hat-trick for Norway at the FIFA Women's World Cup in New Zealand. However, she was left out of Norway's squad for the UEFA Women's Euro and was injured during the winter, keeping her sidelined for three months.

Haug's return to the pitch is also welcomed by her teammate Amber Whiteley, who took over as coach at Liverpool after Matt Beard left in February. Whiteley's presence at the club is a motivating factor for Haug, who is eager to get back into the Norway squad.

With the new season about to begin, Liverpool Women and their fans are looking forward to seeing Haug's contributions on the pitch, as she aims to help the team climb up the WSL rankings and achieve success under the new coaching regime.
