Liverpool FC parts ways with set-piece coach after defensive struggles

Liverpool FC has confirmed the departure of set-piece coach Aaron Briggs. The announcement comes after the team conceded their 12th goal from a dead-ball situation this season. No other club in Europe’s top five leagues has let in more from set plays.

Briggs had worked under manager Arne Slot since July 2024. His exit was finalised on 17 July 2024. Before his appointment, set-piece duties at Liverpool were handled by Peter Krawietz, who oversaw analysis and routines during Jürgen Klopp’s tenure.

Liverpool’s struggles with set pieces have been clear this campaign. Their 12th conceded goal from a dead ball arrived in a recent match against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Only Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest share the same record, each also letting in 12. Bundesliga side Cologne follows closely behind with 11.

The club now faces the task of addressing its defensive weaknesses from set plays. Briggs’ departure leaves a gap in Slot’s coaching staff. Liverpool will need to find a replacement to improve their record in dead-ball situations.
