Liverpool Pursue Marc Guehi Amidst Transfer Deadlock

Liverpool FC are in negotiations with Crystal Palace for the potential transfer of defender Marc Guehi, but the two clubs have yet to reach an agreement on a transfer fee, creating a stalemate in the negotiations.

Crystal Palace initially valued Guehi at around £40 million, but recent reports suggest that the club has lowered their asking price to £35 million. Other sources indicate that Palace might be looking for a fee of £30 million plus £5 million in add-ons. Liverpool, on the other hand, are reportedly seeking a "cut-price deal," indicating their willingness to pay less than Palace's current valuation.

If negotiations fail, Liverpool could potentially wait until next summer to sign Guehi on a free transfer, as his contract with Crystal Palace expires next summer. Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has emphasized that they cannot afford to let him leave on a free transfer, adding pressure to the negotiations.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have already spent over £300 million in the summer transfer window, with the addition of Giovanni Leoni from Parma for a reported £30 million. The Reds have also signed Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Hugo Ekitike, and Giorgi Mamardashvili. Despite these acquisitions, Liverpool have not ruled out further transfers.

Liverpool's head coach, Arne Slot, has stated that his team wouldn't hesitate if they saw another opportunity to strengthen. However, Liverpool's squad has taken a hit with the losses of key players Trent Alexander-Arnold, Luis Diaz, and Darwin Nunez during the transfer window, which could impact their squad.

Steve Parish has also stated that they may have to sell Guehi if he doesn't renew his contract. Newcastle United tried to sign Guehi last summer but didn't return this year, instead signing Malick Thiaw from AC Milan. Should Guehi choose to run down his contract at Crystal Palace, several huge European sides will join the race.

Notably, senior sources at Chelsea have warned off any approach for Guehi, and Newcastle United rejected a £110m offer from Liverpool earlier in the window for their star striker. Despite these complications, Liverpool remain interested in Guehi and are keen to do any deal via the club rather than approaching the player first due to their good relationship with Palace chairman Steve Parish.

Liverpool value Guehi at around £40 million, but a deal isn't guaranteed due to his desire for minutes before the World Cup. Liverpool's new signings have the quality to play for Liverpool, according to Arne Slot, but it remains to be seen whether Guehi will join their ranks.

  1. Liverpool's negotiations for defender Marc Guehi, currently with Crystal Palace, are ongoing, but a transfer fee agreement remains elusive, with reported valuations ranging from £30 million to £40 million.
  2. Amidst the transfer stalemate, Liverpool have already bolstered their squad with several high-profile signings, including Giovanni Leoni, Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Hugo Ekitike, and Giorgi Mamardashvili, but the team may not rule out further transfers.
  3. should the transfer for Guehi fall through, Liverpool could potentially claim him as a free agent next summer, although Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has expressed his desire to avoid this outcome.
