Live Update on Man Utd Transfers: Possible Harry Maguire Departure, United's Sizeable Sesko Offer, Watkins Expresses Interest in Joining the Red Devils
Manchester United have been making waves in the transfer market this summer, with a spending spree that has surpassed £200 million so far.
One of the most significant signings for the Red Devils is Benjamin Sesko, a promising striker from RB Leipzig. United have launched a £73.9million bid for Sesko, and have matched Newcastle's £74million bid, securing him on a five-year contract until 2030. Sesko is expected to be the leading striker under manager Ruben Amorim and is seen as a natural fit to address the team's attacking issues from previous seasons.
In addition to Sesko, United have also signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5m and Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford for £71m. These signings complete a potent forward line and are expected to bolster the squad significantly. United have also acquired teenage left wing-back Diego León from Cerro Porteño for £6.5m, further strengthening the squad.
Earlier in the year, United signed Patrick Dorgu from Lecce for £29m. The team is also planning potential sales of young players like Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Højlund, which could raise close to £100m and potentially allow further reinforcements such as a box-to-box midfielder like Brighton's Carlos Baleba to balance the squad.
As the Premier League season begins next week with Manchester United starting against Arsenal at Old Trafford, United's transfer activity for this summer has been focused on a major revamp, particularly in attack. With possibly more business to come, United look to compete strongly in the upcoming season.
Elsewhere, former Manchester United star David De Gea is set for an emotional return to Old Trafford with Fiorentina for a pre-season friendly match. Meanwhile, Chelsea star and Manchester United target Nicolas Jackson could be on his way out of West London.
In other news, Manchester United have rejected approaches from five clubs (three Premier League, two Italian) for Harry Maguire. Ravel Morrison, another former Man Utd star, has joined the PFA's pre-season training squad, targeting a return to English football.
Finally, Marcus Rashford's home debut for Barcelona has been moved to a stadium with an incredibly small capacity.
