VfB Stuttgart Suffers 0-1 Loss to Coppa Italia Champions FC Bologna

In a pre-season friendly match held at the MHP Arena on August 9, 2025, VfB Stuttgart faced off against the Italian Cup winners, FC Bologna. The match ended with a 0-1 victory for Bologna, courtesy of a goal from Martin Vitík.

VfB Stuttgart had been in fine form during their pre-season, remaining unbeaten in their last five games. They notched up wins against SV Fellbach (7-1), Arminia Bielefeld (4-2), RB Leipzig (3-2), Augsburg (4-0), and St. Pauli (1-0). However, they were unable to continue their winning streak against Bologna.

FC Bologna, as the current Coppa Italia holders, brought a competitive edge to the match. They had ended a 51-year drought by winning the Coppa Italia in May, and their victory over VfB Stuttgart underlined their domestic success.

The friendly served as a competitive warm-up for both clubs ahead of their respective league campaigns. It also acted as a dress rehearsal for the DFL Supercup, which is scheduled to take place in the near future.

Coached by Sebastian Hoeneß, VfB Stuttgart will be looking to bounce back from this loss when the league season begins. On the other hand, Vincenzo Italiano's FC Bologna will aim to carry their form into the new season.
