Rory McIlroy, the Northern Ireland native and current resident of Florida, is set to compete in the 2025 Open Championship at Royal Portrush Golf Club. The tournament, marking the first time the Open Championship is held at Royal Portrush in 68 years, will take place on Thursday, July 17.

McIlroy, who recently won the Masters in 2025, completing the career Grand Slam, has circled this event on his calendar more so than the Masters. However, the past two months have seen McIlroy struggle with listless play and fatigue from questions about his future. He is seeking redemption after missing the cut at Portrush in 2019.

The first round of the tournament will be streamed live on Peacock at 1:30 a.m. ET, and will air on USA Network from 4 a.m. ET in the US. This makes Peacock the primary streaming service for the opening round in the US, with Sky Sports in the UK and Fox Sports/Kayo in Australia also covering the event live. The first round can also be watched on USA Network and streamed on DirecTV, fuboTV, Hulu + Live TV, Sling, and Peacock.

In the UK, Sky Sports Golf & Sky Sports Main Event will broadcast the first round live from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. (GMT). In Australia, the first round will be live on Fox Sports 503 and Kayo from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. (AEDT).

As McIlroy checked into his hotel at Royal Portrush at 1 a.m. after flying over from the Scottish Open, he was met by a large crowd of spectators who wanted his autograph and cheered him on. The pressure to perform is still present for McIlroy, but he remains optimistic about his career. He believes he still has more to give and that the story of his career is not yet over.

Shane Lowry, the champion golfer of the year at Royal Portrush in 2019, believes the course's bunkers pose challenges. Jordan Spieth, who arrived at Royal Portrush on Monday after his wife gave birth to their third child, is also expected to face these challenges. Scottie Scheffler, the world's No. 1 player, is making his first trip to Royal Portrush.

McIlroy had an emotional experience during his practice round in 2019, including a quadruple bogey on the first tee. Despite this, he is eager to return to the course and compete. The people of Northern Ireland are celebrating him as a hometown hero, and he is sure to receive a warm welcome.

As the 2025 Open Championship approaches, all eyes will be on McIlroy as he seeks redemption at Royal Portrush.
