Live Performance of Disco Elysium's Ancient Reptilian Brain Character's Karaoke Scene in Costume

Fuckin' Disco Elysium Shit:

Mikee W. Goodman, that fuckin' voice actor and musician, sang "The Smallest Church in Saint-Saëns" at a gig with the band Sea Power and their composers. That's right, the song is from a nifty karaoke sidequest in the game, where characters can sing their fucking hearts out.

Goodman's performance as Harry Du Bois, the Disco Elysium protagonist, was recorded for everyone's viewing pleasure on TikTok. Guess who he channeled briefly during the performance? Ancient Reptilian Brian, another one of Harry's infamous splintered personalities.

Later in the show, Goodman gave a spoken word performance of Ancient Reptilian Brian's iconic lines as an intro to one of Sea Power's songs. Besides his gig in video games, Goodman's been a member of the influential djent metal band SikTh for ages, and has done spoken word performances sprinkled throughout his music.

He described the whole thing as more of a theatrical act, selling Harry Du Bois' persona instead of just himself as a performer. "I just thought to myself man, do you know what? This is my first on stage acting performance, because even though I'm just singing a song, actually it's theatrical."

Cosplaying as Harry, Goodman wore a pair of disco wheels, a screen-accurate Horrific Necktie, and borrowed an official Atelier ZA/UM green jacket from the studio.

In the game, Harry Du Bois is a sucker for "The Smallest Church in Saint-Saëns"—it's his favorite source of melancholy for those depressed times and heartbroken nights. If you manage to complete the karaoke sidequest, Harry can either nail it in the Ancient Reptilian Brain voice or muck it up with the Limbic System's sickly, scratchy falsetto.

FYI, "The Smallest Church in Saint-Saëns" is a clever, French-flavored twist on Sea Power's "Smallest Church in Sussex." So yeah, the band had a hand in the game too. Fun fact: their real-life "Smallest Church in Sussex" is apparently a place you can visit IRL.[2] And if you compare "The Smallest Church in Saint-Saëns" to "Red Rock Riviera," released in 2013, you'll notice some musical similarities.[1]

Apart from SikTh and voice acting, Goodman's got a new single, "Hermits Under Blankets," released with his project, The Sad Season. He's also on Cameo, offering personalized videos as various Disco personas, and has a Linktree with all his projects in one place.
