Live-audience sitcoms are a signature trait of Chuck Lorre's Comedy work, and his latest Netflix project "Leanne" proves that navigating such a process is as effortless as enjoying a piece of cake for him.

In the world of television, stand-up comedian Leanne Morgan has made a successful transition to acting with her new role in the Netflix sitcom, "Lorraine." Co-created by Susan McMartin and Chuck Lorre, the show is a traditional sitcom that draws heavily from Morgan's real-life experiences and stand-up comedy.

Morgan, who is the stand-up megastar fronting "Lorraine," was open to new suggestions and advice during the production, making for a collaborative and productive environment. McMartin, who also serves as the showrunner, found it fascinating to watch Morgan learn the ropes of blocking scenes and acting opposite her co-stars.

The central story of "Lorraine" was developed in collaboration between Susan McMartin, Chuck Lorre, and Leanne Morgan herself. Morgan's comedic style, rooted in observational humor from her stand-up career, translates effectively to the television format by focusing on relatable life transitions, such as navigating menopause and family changes. McMartin helps tailor these elements into a scripted storyline with grace and humor.

The show's use of a multicam sitcom format honors traditional sitcom dynamics while integrating Morgan's stand-up strengths into the character-driven narrative. The creative team considered Morgan to be a true actress by the end of the show's filming.

"Lorraine" is a slice-of-life comedy that resonates with audiences, in part due to its connection to Morgan's real life and stage act. Filmed for 30 minutes, the production process takes many more hours compared to a 90-120 minute stand-up act.

Chuck Lorre, the creator and producer of "Lorraine," is also planning a second season for the popular sitcom. Additionally, beyond "Leanne," Lorre's upcoming projects include a new season of "Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage" on CBS.

From a women-in-power perspective, it was significant to have two strong female leads in "Lorraine." Susan McMartin, as co-creator and showrunner, has demonstrated her ability to create a show that not only showcases Morgan's comedic talents but also empowers women in the industry.

Meanwhile, HBO Max is developing an official "Big Bang Theory" spinoff titled "Stuart Fails to Save the Universe." Despite this new project, the success of "Lorraine" solidifies Morgan's place as a rising star in the world of television.
