VISITING KYIV: LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER BUDRYS SUPPORTING UKRAINE'S STRUGGLE FOR PEACE

Kestutis Budrys, Lithuania's foreign minister, landed in the heart of Kyiv on a mission. His objective? To lock horns with Ukrainian government members and officials over the escalating tensions and the global push to make Russia call off hostilities and agree to a ceasefire - a prerequisite for peace talks.

Budrys' itinerary is jam-packed, with meetings lined up with Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha, Deputy Prime Minister-Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olga Stefanishyna, Minister of Strategic Industries Herman Smetanin, and Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksandr Lytvynenko. Additionally, Budrys will chat with the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak and Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.

The discussions aren't limited to the heated frontline situation. They delve deeper, focusing on securing Ukraine's safety, priority assistance, and deterrent measures against Russia. The conversations will also illuminate Ukraine's progress in the European Union integration process.

As Budrys' third visit to Ukraine since his tenure as foreign minister, this trip underscores Lithuania's unwavering resolve to stand by Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression and advocate for justice regarding Russia's alleged crimes.

In the past, these visits have been instrumental in supporting Ukraine's resistance, addressing critical humanitarian and security needs in affected regions. During his last visit on April 1, Budrys toured the city of Kherson with Andriy Sybiha, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister. They roamed through essential infrastructure, an underground school, and an underground maternity ward, showcasing the devastating impact of the conflict on ordinary citizens[1][5].

A highlight of Budrys' current visit is his staunch solidarity with the people of Kherson. As the first foreign minister to visit Kherson since its de-occupation in 2022, Budrys' tour emphasized strong support for the local populace in their struggles against ongoing Russian terrorist activities[5].

Although NATO-related matters are a hot topic, Budrys refrains from dwell upon discussions revolving around Ukraine's membership invitation in the forthcoming NATO summit. Instead, his focus remains on providing strong support, security cooperation, and moral backing to Ukraine[2][3]. In essence, his priority is to fortify Ukraine's position and provide them with the assistance they need to weather this storm.
