Lithuania Stands Firm on Ukraine's Sovereignty

Lithuania decisively affirms it will not acknowledge the disputed Ukrainian territory under Russian control as legitimate Russian territory.

The Lithuanian parliament, known as the Seimas, voiced its unwavering support for Ukraine's territorial integrity in a resolution passed on Thursday. In a resounding vote, 118 parliamentarians emphasized that they do not recognize the territories of Ukraine occupied by Russia, whether de jure or de facto.

This move aligns Ukraine with Lithuania as a sovereign and independent European state, with the right to defend itself and determine its internal and external policies. The resolution underscores that Ukraine's borders, recognized by the international community since 1991, are inviolable.

"It's essential not only to halt this unjustified conflict and secure long-term peace but also to restore Ukraine's territorial integrity," said Remigijus Motuzas, chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, when presenting the resolution.

The Seimas appeals to the parliaments of other nations to adopt similar resolutions affirming their unwavering commitment to Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. They are encouraged to undertake measures preventing the recognition of the annexation of Ukrainian territories by Russia.

While the Trump administration has been pushing for a peace process between Ukraine and Russia, it's been rumored that the U.S. might recognize Russia's control over Ukraine's Crimea and ease sanctions against Moscow. However, Ukraine remains resolute, with Foreign Minister Andrejus Sybiagas clearly stating that Ukraine will not recognize any territories temporarily occupied by Russia as Russian.

As we continue to monitor international responses, it becomes clear that many countries support Ukraine's sovereignty during the ongoing conflict with Russia. While specific resolutions like Lithuania's are not found in available information regarding other countries, countries such as Latvia exhibit strong support for Ukraine. It would be insightful to track international responses to better understand the worldwide stance on this critical issue.
