The first HAN in 1986 saw performances from The Righteous Brothers, Wolfman Jack, and Jan & Dean. Initially, it was a 1950s and '60s music festival. Willie Davidson, a great marketing mind, believed that an event based on nostalgia for those times would be successful. Tragically, Davidson passed away in 2013.
This year, from August 1 to August 10, HAN is taking place once again. Up to 6,000 participants with their cars are expected, and as many as 500,000 spectators are anticipated over the ten days. This is the 39th year of HAN.
Reno, in 1986, was a popular casino destination, with six million people visiting the city each year. Summer was a slow season for the gaming industry in northern Nevada, with the casino business peaking in May and October. To help ease the pain of the slow summer months, Reno needed more events, and HAN was one such initiative.
