Lisbon Introduces Complimentary Parking Spots for Nighttime Use

In a move aimed at easing the challenge of parking in Lisbon during the night, a partnership between Lidl and EMEL (Empresa Municipal de Mobilidade e Estacionamentos de Lisboa) is now offering 335 free night parking spaces in six Lidl supermarket parking lots across the city. The initiative, which started on July 11, 2025, is open to registered residents and is part of a broader effort by Lisbon City Council to enhance night parking options for residents.

The available parking lots include Belenenses, Olivais Sul, and Infante D. Henrique, which are currently open, and Carnide, Xabregas, and Laranjeiras, which are expected to open by the end of July 2025.

To use these parking spaces, residents must sign up for the service. Registration can be completed either at Lidl stores or via EMEL’s website. The parking spaces are free of charge for registered residents and are available nightly, starting from the supermarkets' closing time until 8:30 AM the following day.

This partnership provides a valuable night parking solution in some Lisbon areas, targeting residents who face difficulties with daytime parking availability. It's worth noting that the Night Parking Agreement parking spaces are in addition to the ones provided through the partnership between Lidl and EMEL.

Lidl is the first major supermarket chain to participate in this project, which is part of Lisbon City Council's initiative to utilize unused nighttime parking spaces in commercial establishments without requiring any investment. The city council's project aims to make 3,500 overnight parking spaces available in 36 EMEL and Telpark parking lots across 14 parishes, as it was publicly announced on March 19, 2025.

The event to publicly present this measure will take place on Friday at the Lidl parking lot of the Os Belenenses Football Club, with the attendance of Lisbon Mayor Carlos Moedas (PSD). This partnership is a significant step towards improving the quality of life for Lisbon residents, particularly those who struggle with parking during the night.
