In a thrilling turn of events, Team Liquid from the Philippines has emerged victorious in the Esports World Cup 2022, held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on August 2. The team, composed of Karl "KarlTzy" Nepomuceno, Alston "Sanji" Pabico, Kiel "Oheb" Soriano, Jaypee "Jaypee" dela Cruz, and John "Perkziva" Sumawan, defeated Selangor Red Giants OG Esports in the grand final with a score of 4-1.

The Esports World Cup, initially known as the Riyadh Masters for Dota 2, featured a diverse lineup of over 20 game titles. Alongside mobile legends, the tournament included popular esports titles such as Dota 2, Counter-Strike, League of Legends, and Honor of Kings. Other games featured were StarCraft II, Free Fire, PUBG and PUBG Mobile, Rainbow Six Siege, Overwatch 2, Fortnite, Rocket League, EA SPORTS FC, Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, Teamfight Tactics, RENNSPORT, and Apex Legends.

This victory marks the first Mid Season Cup win for Team Liquid, and it's the fourth time the Philippines has won the Mid Season Cup in Mobile Legends. Notably, the team managed to win the tournament without dropping a single series.

Sanford Vinuya, a key player in the team, was named Finals MVP and received an additional $10,000. The team's success is all the more significant considering that it comes as a form of redemption for the Philippines, following runner-up finishes by Blacklist International and Falcons AP Bren in previous years.

In a surprising twist, the Esports World Cup also saw Magnus Carlsen, a Norwegian chess star and a member of Team Liquid, watching the opening game of the Mid Season Cup. Carlsen went on to win the chess event of the Esports World Cup, defeating Alireza Firouzja of Team Falcons in the grand final.

The victory earned Team Liquid a top prize of $1 million, equivalent to over P57 million, while Onic Philippines, who placed third, received a prize of $250,000, or over P14 million.

The Esports World Cup is part of the broader Esports World Cup series that evolved from Gamers8, a tournament series established in Riyadh starting in 2022. The event continues to grow annually, including a wide range of competitive games spanning multiple genres.

With this impressive win, Team Liquid has solidified its position as a force to be reckoned with in the world of esports, and the Philippines has much to celebrate in the realm of competitive gaming.

The Esports World Cup, including titles like Dota 2, League of Legends, and Mobile Legends, showcases a variety of competitive games. Team Liquid's success in Mobile Legends, where they clinched the Mid Season Cup, establishes them as a dominant force in the esports arena.
