Tigers vs. Rockies, 3:10 ET: Balancing the Betting Scales
You know that old saying, "What goes around comes around"? Well, in true Seinfeld fashion, Jerry’s friends put it to the test - tossing a $20 bill out the window and guess what Jerry found in his coat pocket? You got it, a wash'n'wear fiver! Life seems to even out, but when it comes to sports betting, we can't afford to be balanced, as we inevitably lose on the juice. So a 1-1 day ain't terrible, but it ain't ideal neither. Today, we're giving it our best shot on the game between the Tigers and the Rockies.
Detroit, surprise, surprise! This team is stepping up to the plate this season. The squad was hyped as a solid pitching staff last year, but dumb as a box of hair, their hitting left a lot to be desired. That was my take on them anyway. They had the Cy Young and a few other arms worth talking about, but the bats weren't gonna carry them all the way to the World Series, darn it.
But you know what? This team is looking surprisingly well-balanced this season. The starting pitchers are at the top of their game, and the offense is out-slugging their past performance. One guy I fancy putting some action on is Casey Mize. Mize will take the mound in Colorado for Game 1 of today's double-header. Mize won us our first multi-unit win the other day against the Angels. It wasn't his finest outing - seven innings, seven hits, a pair of homers, and four earned runs - but you can't complain about the result. The Rockies' batters are hitting a cool .333 against him in just 12 at-bats, but hey, that ain't much to go on.
Now, onto the Rockies. These boys are off to a terrible start this season. Nobody on this green Earth expected the Rockies to be any good this year, but even die-hard fans had to think they'd perform better than this, right? We're well into May, and the Rockies still haven't reached double-digit wins for the season. Can you believe it?
The Rockies haven't won a series yet, and they've only managed to win back-to-back games once - April 30th and May 1st. They've always been bad on the road, but their home record usually hangs around .500. Not this year at 4-12. Since April 24, the Rockies have served up six or more runs in 10 out of 13 games. They've scored three or fewer runs in eight of those 13 matches. Ouch! Kyle Freeland takes the hill today. He's had his fair share of success at Coors Field in the past, but not this year. Things have been ugly for him so far with an 8.53 ERA in three starts, allowing 12 earned runs in 12.2 innings. There isn't a single outlier game here, buddy - he's allowing runs in every single start. There aren't many Tigers with experience against him, but in their limited at-bats, Gleyber Torres has drilled five outta six chances.
Now, while I like to give a slight nod to the pitcher a lineup hasn't seen before, I can't do that for Freeland. Mize has shown that the hitters have made contact against him in the past, so I wouldn't expect him to go unscathed in this one either. But hey, let's not ignore the trends - the Rockies are giving up lots of runs, and they ain't scoring many. Back the run line here. I don't even care if you're going for a -2.5.

- In the sports betting world, we often find ourselves hoping for an imbalance, as we aim to win despite the inevitable losses on the 'juice.'
- Today's game between the Tigers and the Rockies presents an interesting opportunity for some action, given the Tigers' impressive season so far.
- One player I am considering placing a bet on is Casey Mize, who will start for the Tigers in today's doubleheader, having already won a multi-unit game against the Angels for us.
- Despite the Rockies' tough start to the season, I'm backing the run line for the Tigers, considering their impressive performance and the Rockies' struggles to score runs.
