Lion defensive back Morice Norris is under concussion protocol, but reportedly recovering favorably
Detroit Lions safety Morice Norris Jr. is currently undergoing the NFL's concussion protocol following an injury sustained during the preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons on August 8, 2025. The incident occurred on the first play of the fourth quarter when Norris was tackling Falcons running back Nathan Carter.
During the tackle, Carter's right knee hit Norris in the head, prompting immediate attention on the field. Norris was treated for approximately 20 minutes before being transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta for observation. The game was subsequently ended.
The Lions announced that Norris is in stable condition with feeling and movement in all his extremities. Head coach Dan Campbell stated that Norris is "doing well" and the team will be cautious during his recovery. The timeline for Norris' recovery is estimated to be 10 to 14 days, aligning with typical concussion recovery protocols before determining readiness to return to play.
In a positive update on social media, Norris expressed his gratitude and reassured fans that he is "all good." The post included a Lions-blue heart emoji and a bible verse.
After signing as an undrafted free agent from Fresno State, Norris made his debut for the Lions in 2024, appearing in two games. Despite his injury, the Lions managed to win the preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons, 17-10.
Norris played one snap on defense and 32 on special teams for the Lions before the injury. The team and the Falcons have agreed to end the game following the incident.
As Norris navigates through the concussion protocol, the Lions will closely monitor his progress before reassessing his readiness to return to the field. The team and the fans alike are hopeful for a speedy recovery for the promising young player.
