Lion cornerback Morice Norris undergoing concussion evaluation, but reportedly recuperating favorably
Lions' Morice Norris Jr. Remains in Concussion Protocol After Atlanta Incident
Morice Norris Jr., the Lions' cornerback, is currently recovering from a serious concussion sustained during a preseason game against the Falcons on August 8, 2025. The incident occurred during a tackle on the first play of the fourth quarter, and Norris was taken off the field on a stretcher.
Norris was hospitalized briefly but was reported to be stable with movement and feeling in all extremities. He has since returned to the Lions' facility and is being closely monitored by the team's medical staff. The team suspended the game immediately after the injury, reflecting the severity and immediate concern for Norris's health.
Coach Dan Campbell has stated that the team will take a cautious approach, allowing 10 to 14 days for recovery before reassessing Norris’s health status and potential return to play. As of August 19, 2025, there has been no announcement of a definitive timeline for his return, reflecting the typical care and caution with concussions in the NFL.
Norris posted a positive update on social media on Saturday, writing, "Amen Amen. I'm all good man don't stress it appreciate all the check ins and love." The post included a Lions-blue heart emoji and a bible verse.
Norris signed as an undrafted free agent from Fresno State and made his Lions debut in two games in 2024. He played one snap on defense and 32 on special teams. His teammate, who he tackled during the incident, was running back Nathan Carter from the Falcons.
The Lions won the game 17-10, but the focus now is on Norris's recovery. The team is following concussion protocol rigorously and will reassess after the 10 to 14 day period recommended by their medical staff. Norris is currently in concussion protocol and will be out for the next couple of weeks.
The Lions and Falcons coaches, Dan Campbell and Raheem Morris, ended the game after the injury. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of player safety in the NFL. The Lions organization and fans are hoping for a speedy recovery for Norris.
