Christian Lindner, the head of Germany's Liberal Democratic Party (FDP), is all for discussing EU migration policy after the recent suspected Islamic stabbing incident in Solingen. Speaking on ARD's "Maischberger" show, Lindner mentioned that the CDU is now ready, post-Merkel, to take charge of migration policy in Germany and acknowledge past flaws. This means it's perfectly fine for the federal government to discuss potential measures with the states and the CDU/CSU opposition party.

Lindner emphasized that this concerns the fundamental interests of our nation. We have the right to know who's in Germany, and we have the authority to decide who stays. Everyone is welcome to participate, he confirmed.

The FDP leader wasn't too happy about the CDU leader, Friedrich Merz, allowing the SPD to enact reforms with the Union without the FDP, labeling it a mere "party political display."

Given Lindner's stance, it's crucial for the federal government to address the aftermath of the Solingen knife attack. Despite Lindner criticizing the CDU's party tactics, it's essential for the government to engage in dialogues with all parties, including the Union, about implementing necessary measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

Insights:

Christian Lindner, the FDP leader in Germany, has advocated for stricter migration policies following the stabbing incident in Aschaffenburg, which was linked to a rejected Afghan asylum seeker. Lindner believes Germany has been too lenient towards necessary labor migrants while making it easier for those who enter irregularly. The FDP supports a trial run of denying entry at Germany's external borders and has criticized the Greens for blocking stricter measures on migration during the Scholz coalition. Lindner also advises against forming a coalition with the far-right AfD, fearing it would transform Germany into an authoritarian democracy. He praises Denmark's strict migration policies and encourages focusing on controlling immigration to the political center.
