Lille football club concentrates on Turkish goalkeeper Berke Ozer as their target in Ligue 1
Berke Özer, a promising Turkish goalkeeper, has made a significant move in his career, joining Lille in the French Ligue 1 for an approximate transfer fee of €4.5 million. The deal, which also includes €500,000 in bonuses, was officially announced in August 2025.
Born on May 25, 2000, in İzmir, Turkey, Özer started his football journey as a centre-back in Bucaspor's youth system. However, an impressive penalty save in a youth match caught everyone's attention, leading him to switch positions and focus on goalkeeping.
Özer's professional journey began with Altınordu, where he signed his first contract in 2016. He made his debut with the first team in 2017. Since then, he has been on loan at Belgian side Westerlo between 2019 and 2021 and Portuguese club Portimonense.
In 2023, Özer returned to Turkey with Eyupspor, marking the start of a new chapter in his career. He quickly established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper, a position he held until his move to Lille. Özer extended his contract with Eyupspor until 2027, showing his commitment to the club.
Lille is no stranger to recruiting successful Turkish players. Previously, the club brought in Zeki Celik, Yusuf Yazici, and Burak Yilmaz, all of whom played key roles in Lille's modern success story. If Özer's move to Lille materialises, he will follow in their footsteps.
However, the transfer is not yet confirmed, and Özer played 65 matches for Eyupspor over the last two seasons before this potential move.
Özer has represented Turkey at various youth levels and is now seen as one of the future stars between the posts for the national team. With his move to Lille, he aims to further solidify his position as a reliable goalkeeper, both domestically and internationally.
