Lightweight champion Gervonta 'Tank' Davis escapes domestic violence charges

Boxing champion Gervonta Davis has once again avoided legal trouble related to domestic violence, as charges against him were dropped on Tuesday. This marks the fourth time Davis has faced such allegations, but no charges have resulted in a conviction.

In December 2022, Davis was arrested on charges of domestic battery involving a different woman. A 911 call revealed the woman begging for help, claiming Davis was going to kill her. However, the accuser eventually recanted the accusation, and the charges were dropped, allowing Davis' scheduled fight to proceed.

In February 2020, Davis was arrested and charged with simple battery/domestic violence against a former girlfriend following an incident at the University of Miami. The case attracted media attention but was later dismissed after the victim chose not to proceed with prosecution.

In May 2023, another battery case was dropped after a woman who accused Davis of slapping her at his mansion declined to press charges.

The most recent incident occurred on Father's Day, June 15, 2025. Davis allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend, the mother of his two children, by punching her on the back of the head and slapping her, causing a small cut inside her lip. Davis was arrested in Miami Beach on July 11, 2025, charged with misdemeanor battery, and released on a $10,000 bond. On August 12, 2025, the domestic violence case was officially dropped as the victim declined to prosecute and key witnesses did not cooperate.

In 2020, Davis was also arrested on domestic violence charges, but these were eventually dropped by his accuser. In 2017, Davis was charged with misdemeanor second-degree assault after allegedly striking a longtime friend with a gloved fist. However, the charges against him were eventually dropped by his friend.

It is worth noting that in 2023, Davis was sentenced to 90 days' house arrest and 3 years' probation for a hit-and-run incident in which he fled the scene of an accident he caused by running a red light. Davis violated the terms of his house arrest and served 44 days in jail in May 2023.

The Miami-Dade State's Attorney Office confirmed that the victim in the most recent incident is declining to prosecute. The woman who accused Davis in December 2022 was heard on a 911 call begging for help.

Davis' legal troubles have not affected his boxing career, and he has continued to compete and win fights. However, the repeated allegations of domestic violence have raised concerns and questions about his conduct outside the ring.
