In a whirlwind turn of events, Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi-starrer Bhool Chuk Maaf found itself in a mind-bending cinematic conundrum. Initially set for a digital release, this intriguing time loop comedy seemed destined for a streaming platform. However, multiplex chain PVRINOX threw a spanner in the works by taking the producers to court over their decision.[1][2]
As a result, Bhool Chuk Maaf hit the big screen on May 23, breaking the enigmatic cycle of its release trajectory.
Wamiqa Speaks Out 🗣️
In a candid chat with Just Too Filmy, Wamiqa Gabbi shared her thoughts on the entire ordeal, and the weight of being a part of such a turbulent project. She quipped, "It didn't faze me. I've seen too much in life to let this get to me! It was a major moment for me. I could've crumbled. I could've gone through a rollercoaster of emotions. But I didn't, because I've seen enough."[6]
She delved deeper, reminiscing about her past rejections, unfulfilled promises, and the bitter taste of unrealized potential. She admitted, "I've been rejected plenty of times. I've trusted in projects that I thought would change my career or my life, and they didn't. I realized it's not in my hands. Despite all that, I continued to grow."[7]
Originally, Maddock Films confirmed that the film would skip its theatrical release on May 9 and debut on Prime Video on May 16, due to recent nationwide security measures and escalated precautions.[1][3] PVRINOX promptly challenged the producers' decision in court, seeking to prevent the film's streaming release and demanding Rs 60 crores in damages for contract breach, following substantial financial losses resulting from canceled theater bookings.[1][4]
Ultimately, the parties involved – PVRINOX, Maddock Films, and Amazon MGM Studios – reached an agreement, permitting the film to screen in theaters on May 23.[4][5] The OTT premier is now set for June 6, 2025, just two weeks later.[5]
