New York Liberty Secure Victory Over Tired Los Angeles Sparks

In a high-scoring affair, the New York Liberty emerged victorious against a fatigued Los Angeles Sparks team, securing a hard-fought 105-97 triumph. The win marked a significant milestone for Sandy Brondello, who surpassed Richie Adubato's record for the most coaching wins in New York Liberty franchise history.

Brondello, who has been at the helm for slightly more than three seasons, broke a 25-year-old record set by Adubato. Her 101st victory came in August 2025. Under her leadership, the Liberty have enjoyed consistent playoff appearances and two WNBA Finals runs, also winning both an in-season (2023) and postseason championship (2024).

The Liberty's offensive firepower was on full display, as they set a season high of 105 points. Emma Meesseman led the charge with a season-high 24 points, while Jonquel Jones contributed 21 points and 11 rebounds for the opposing team. Natasha Cloud added to the New York offence with back-to-back layups, giving them a commanding 96-85 lead. After a missed 3-pointer by Los Angeles, Cloud capitalised again with a basket in the lane, increasing the lead to 102-91.

The Los Angeles Sparks, who played their fifth game in eight days, struggled to keep up with the energetic Liberty. Kelsey Plum scored 26 points for the Sparks, while Rickea Jackson added 16. However, the absence of key players such as Cameron Brink in the second half, along with injuries to Breanna Stewart, Isabelle Harrison, and Nyara Sabally, proved to be a significant setback for the Sparks.

Despite a valiant effort, the Sparks' record for the season now stands at 15-18. The New York Liberty, on the other hand, move to 16-17 with the win.
