Liberal Party, led by Mark Carney, secures victory in Canada's election in astonishing turnaround; Carney cautions Trump: "Attempting to fracture us is futile."

Meanwhile, Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre attempted to frame the election as a referendum on former prime minister Justin Trudeau, whose popularity waned during his decade in office as food and housing prices skyrocketed. Although Poilievre had condemned Trump's interference earlier, his rhetoric echoed key aspects of the U.S. president's ideology, pledging to be Canada's "anti-woke" prime minister.
However, Poilievre suffered a notable setback when he lost his own parliamentary seat to Liberal candidate Bruce Fanjoy, a long-shot contender in the Ottawa district of Carleton.
Carney, who took the helm following Trudeau's resignation earlier this year, had been viewed as a finance expert prepared to tackle Trump head-on. His steadfast approach toward U.S.-Canadian trade tensions and vows to reduce reliance on American markets resonated with voters.
"America covets our land, our resources," Carney declared following the election results. "We must acknowledge that our world has undergone a dramatic transformation."

In his victory speech, he emphasized the "seminal moment in history," "American betrayal," and called out Trump, stating, "Trump is seeking to fracture us for the purpose of domination." This provocative language echoed a new form of political discourse inspired by Trump's leadership.
Carney displayed a remarkable political resurgence, overcoming a 25-point deficit in the polls—a record-breaking reversal in Canadian politics. His Liberals, once dismissed as a fading force, have now etched their place in history.
Facing trade sanctions from the U.S., Carney vowed to take a tougher stance on American tariffs and pledged to invest billions in reducing Canada's dependence on U.S. markets. "We hold the power to give ourselves much more than the Americans can ever take away," Carney said on election night. U.K. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer delivered his congratulations to Carney, stating, "The U.K. and Canada are inextricably tied—personally, politically, and economically. Under your leadership, I am confident the bond between our two nations will deepen."
If Carney's party only manages to capture a minority of parliamentary seats, the new prime minister will need to negotiate with other parties to maintain his power. Such minority governments in Canada typically last no longer than two-and-a-half years.
