Liam Neeson playfully criticizes his portrayal of Qui-Gon Jinn in 'The Phantom Menace', stating it was too mild for a real Jedi Master: "Really, hardly the might of a Jedi Grand Master."

In a recent interview, Liam Neeson, known for his iconic role as Qui-Gon Jinn in "Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace," expressed his dissatisfaction with his character's death scene. Neeson felt that the scene lacked the intensity and skill expected of a Master Jedi, describing it as "a bit namby-pamby."

During the climactic duel with Darth Maul, Qui-Gon Jinn fell after a move that Neeson found unsatisfying. According to Neeson, his character was supposed to be a Master Jedi, but he was outwitted in a simplistic way that seemed implausible for such an experienced Jedi. Neeson humorously summarized the move as, "Oh, I'm going for your face. No, I'm not – I'm going for your stomach. Oh, you got me!"

Neeson's comments were made during an episode of GQ's "Most Iconic Characters." He expressed a desire for his character's death scene to be more impactful and fitting for a master Jedi, as he felt it came across as somewhat weak or "soft."

Meanwhile, Neeson is currently starring in a different role in the Paramount reboot of "The Naked Gun," which is now showing in theaters. In this film, Neeson plays Detective Frank Drebin Jr., a departure from his usual roles. Unlike Qui-Gon Jinn, Detective Drebin Jr. is typically brooding, and Neeson trades his light saber for a police badge. The cast includes Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, CCH Pounder, and Kevin Durand.

In the interview with GQ's "Most Iconic Characters," Liam Neeson critiqued his character Qui-Gon Jinn's death scene in "Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace," stating that it fell short in delivering an appropriate level of intensity and skill for a Master Jedi, positioning it as a point of interest in the realm of pop-culture and movies-and-tv discussions. When not tackling the Jedi Order, Neeson ventures into different roles outside of the galaxy far, far away, as seen in his current project, a reboot of "The Naked Gun" presented by Paramount, where he portrays Detective Frank Drebin Jr. in a departure from his traditional roles. The film's intriguing cast includes Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, CCH Pounder, and Kevin Durand, showcasing a contrast to the more brooding Drebin Jr., a stark contrast from the light-hearted, yet deeply criticized Qui-Gon Jinn.
