In a captivating blend of old and new, Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson have stepped into the dreamlike world of Tennessee Williams's Camino Real. The play, known for its unconventional structure and surreal atmosphere, is currently being revived at the Williamstown Theatre Festival.

Neeson plays the role of Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., a character he reprises from the 1988 cult classic, The Naked Gun. Interestingly, Anderson, who played Beth in the same film, shared the screen with Neeson two days before her stage curtain call.

Camino Real is a timeless, mythical town where characters from literature and history coexist. The plot revolves around Don Quixote's search for a new squire, the desperate ex-boxer Kilroy's struggle for survival, and the faded Casanova's love for a woman who has apparently survived death but lost her tenderness. The town features stark contrasts, with a deluxe hotel for the wealthy and a flophouse for the downtrodden.

Anderson takes on the role of Marguerite, a character borrowed from Alexandre Dumas's The Lady of the Camellias. Her performance in Camino Real marks her return to the stage following her critically acclaimed performance as Roxie Hart in Chicago on Broadway. The production, directed by Dustin Wills, is noted for its eclectic cast and its exploration of Williams's complex and avant-garde vision.

The play, while not following a conventional plot, presents a series of symbolic and fragmented scenes exploring existential themes, human flaws, and surreal encounters among iconic characters. Kilroy, played by a yet-unspecified actor, wanders into this surreal world, eventually discovering he is marked for death by the town’s eerie street cleaners who collect dead bodies.

The production also features Ato Blankson-Wood as Lord Byron and Nicholas Alexander Chavez as Kilroy. Liam Neeson's son, Daniel, was also present at the performance, adding a personal touch to the event.

With its surreal setting, complex characters, and thought-provoking themes, the revival of Camino Real promises to be a fascinating theatrical experience. The play is running at the Williamstown Theatre Festival until August 14.
