Formula 1 Wheels Spin Again as Hamilton Claims Victory Number 1,000
Lewis Hamilton's stellar performance at the Chinese Grand Prix last year propelled him to an incredible milestone - his 1,000th win in the world of Formula 1 racing.
In a nail-biting start, Hamilton dashed past Valtteri Bottas, who claimed the pole position and led the race for the majority of the time. The grand race on the Shanghai International Circuit marked Hamilton's 75th career victory and his second success of the 2019 season, giving him an unassailable lead in the driver's championship this year.
Sebastian Vettel, the Ferrari driver who many believed would challenge Hamilton's dominance in 2019, finished third. Despite the early expectation, Vettel found himself trailing Hamilton by 31 points after only the third race of the season. His podium finish in Shanghai was primarily a result of smart team strategies that helped him overtake Charles Leclerc, his young teammate.
Leclerc, in his inaugural season with Ferrari, didn't seem entirely content with the outcome. His disappointment was further magnified when Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing denied him a fourth-place finish.
However, Hamilton appeared unaffected by these developments and described his victory as "a fantastic result" for Mercedes, which secured the top two positions for the third time in three races. "Valtteri has been almost racing the entire week, putting in tremendous work and securing a terrific double victory for our 1,000th Grand Prix," he added.
"The team's strategies have been exceptional so far, and we just need to keep pushing forward. We're so close, and I'm unsure how the next race will pan out," Hamilton concluded.
The Nigerian-German ace further celebrated his victory from atop the podium, wrapped in the Union Jack flag and waving to the adoring crowd.
Bottas, who now lies second in the driver's standings, just six points behind Hamilton, confessed his regret at a slip-up on the opening lap that helped Hamilton snatch the lead. He stated that it was unfortunate and added, "The pace was similar in the first run, but in the first portion, I couldn't keep up with him due to the dirty air."
The 2019 Formula 1 season is brimming with intense rivalries, strategic masterclasses, and adrenaline-pumping races. Next up, the action shifts to Azerbaijan, as fans eagerly await the Baku Grand Prix on April 28.
In the backdrop of Hamilton’s victory, some notable drivers and their standings in the 2019 season include:
