Lewis Hamilton grapples with lingering effects of COVID-19 as he prepares for season finale
Seven-time world champion Hammy missed last weekend's Bahrain Grand Prix following a positive test, but returned for the season finale. He claimed the third spot in Saturday's race, but admitted he's not yet "100%."
"I still feel a certain something in my lung," Hamilton shared with Reuters. "Normally, I'd be racing even with one arm hanging. But not this time."
Physically, it won't be a walk in the park, he admitted, but he's determined to deliver his best.
"I've lost a lot of weight this week, so obviously I'm not at 100%. But that won't stop me from showing up and giving it my all," Hamilton stated.
The seven-time champ bagged 11 victories in the current title-winning season, vowing to bring everything to the table in the final race of the year.
"I'm not sure if I'll even make it this weekend. I'm focusing on healing my body as quickly as possible. I'm grateful for the chance to do so," he shared on Instagram. "I know I won't be at 100%, but I'm still looking forward to the battle on the track."
Mercedes confirmed Hammy tested negative on Wednesday, eleven days after entering isolation.
"Loading up isn't as easy as it used to be," he said, acknowledging the challenges in bouncing back from the virus.
