Patrik Schick, the Bundesliga's top scorer from open play in the 2024/25 season with an impressive 20 goals, has extended his contract with Bayer 04 Leverkusen until June 2030. This long-term commitment signals the club's determination to build around their star striker as they aim for continued success and trophies.

Schick, who joined Leverkusen in 2020, has been a vital force for the club, scoring 81 goals in 168 appearances across all competitions and providing 12 assists. His exceptional goal return and international experience make him an invaluable asset to the squad.

Under the coaching of Xabi Alonso, Schick scored vital goals, helping Leverkusen become the first club to win the Bundesliga without losing a match. This breakthrough season was a significant moment for both Schick and Leverkusen, as the club also won a historic domestic double in the 2023/24 season, with Schick contributing 13 goals.

With the departure of Alonso to coach Real Madrid, Erik ten Hag has replaced him as the new coach at Leverkusen. Ten Hag and Schick will lead Leverkusen as the club starts down a new path, with the aim of building a top team for the future.

In addition to securing Schick's services, Leverkusen has also welcomed new arrivals Jarell Quansah from Liverpool, Malik Tillman, a German creative midfielder, and Mark Flekken from Brentford. These new signings, along with Schick, will provide the squad with the necessary stability and structure during the rebuild phase.

However, the decision to extend Schick's contract contrasts with the trend of departures from the Bundesliga runners-up this summer. The likes of Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Granit Xhaka, and Jonathan Tah have left Leverkusen, but the club remains optimistic about their future prospects with Schick as a central figure.

In a statement, Schick expressed his desire to continue scoring goals and be a key part of a team capable of winning trophies. Sporting director Simon Rolfes also highlighted Schick’s role as a "motor of development," combining quality finishing and international experience that will bring stability and structure to the squad during this rebuild phase.

As Leverkusen prepares for the 2025/26 campaign start, the club and its fans can look forward to another exciting season with Schick leading the line. With ten Hag at the helm and a strong squad in place, Leverkusen is well-positioned to challenge for trophies both domestically and in Europe.

Patrik Schick's extended contract with Bayer 04 Leverkusen indicates the team's ambition to compete not only domestically but also in international sports, such as European-leagues. This commitment to Schick, a prolific goal scorer, is expected to play a pivotal role in Leverkusen's aspiration to achieve success and trophies in various football tournaments.
