Lester Holt Launches 'The Last Appeal' Podcast on Criminal Justice
Lester Holt, the renowned journalist who recently stepped down from his anchor role at NBC Nightly News, is embarking on a new venture. He's exploring fresh project ideas for Dateline and other NBC News platforms, including a podcast series that delves into the criminal justice system.
Holt's first original podcast, 'The Last Appeal', is part of Dateline and examines the case of Robert Roberson, a Texas man facing execution on October 16. The podcast, which launched this month, is a departure from traditional broadcast journalism, allowing for deeper conversations and a more intimate exploration of the subject matter.
Holt, once known as 'the fastest mic in the West' during his radio days, is drawing on his early career skills for this new format. He believes that sound and conversation are particularly valuable in podcasts, enabling a unique connection with listeners. The podcast is co-created with producer Suzanne Rust and executive producer Brian Abelson.
This isn't Holt's first foray into criminal justice issues. In 2019, he explored the topic in a Dateline special from Louisiana State Penitentiary. Now, taking the summer off from his previous anchor role, Holt is using this time to pursue new projects and engage with audiences in a different way.
Lester Holt's 'The Last Appeal' podcast is a compelling addition to NBC News' Dateline, offering a unique perspective on the criminal justice system. With his extensive experience and passion for journalism, Holt is set to lead insightful conversations that go beyond the typical news broadcast.
