Lenzerheide Hosts Biathlon’s Elite in High-Stakes World Championships

The Biathlon World Championships have started in Lenzerheide, Switzerland, marking the first time the resort hosts the main event. Running from 12 to 23 February, the competition features top athletes from around the globe, including Norway’s dominant men’s team and Germany’s leading women’s contender.

Biathlon combines cross-country skiing with precision rifle shooting. Athletes must hit targets from 50 metres away, with diameters ranging from 4.5 to 11.5 centimetres, while racing at high speeds. The sport demands both physical endurance and mental health, as highlighted by legendary biathlete Ole Einar Bjørndalen, who stressed the importance of self-awareness and balance between body and mind.

The Lenzerheide championships will test athletes across multiple disciplines over two weeks. With Norway and Germany leading the championship standings, Switzerland’s rising stars will aim to challenge for podium finishes. The event also highlights the sport’s unique blend of physical and mental skill under pressure.
