Lena Bickel's Olympic Comeback: Swiss Gymnast Qualifies for All-Around Final
Lena Bickel, the 20-year-old Swiss gymnast, has secured a spot in the women’s all-around final at the ongoing Olympics. This comes after a challenging period of injuries that kept her away from competition for over a year. Her teammate, Anny Wu, however, did not qualify, finishing 30th in the qualifying round.
Bickel's return to form is a significant achievement. She finished 15th out of 84 competitors in the all-around qualifying round, earning her a place in the top-24 and a ticket to the finals. This is a remarkable feat considering her recent injury struggles. Bickel's resilience and determination have paid off, as she has recovered her full energy and is now ready to compete at the highest level.
Unfortunately, neither Bickel nor Wu will compete in the top-eight apparatus finals. This means the Swiss delegation will not be represented in these events. However, Bickel's qualification for the all-around final is a notable success for the Swiss team.
Lena Bickel will compete in the women’s all-around final on Thursday afternoon, Swiss time. Despite not qualifying for the apparatus finals, her performance in the all-around competition has secured a spot for her in the upcoming World Gymnastics Championships in Jakarta. The Swiss delegation can look forward to Bickel's participation in the 2025 World Championships, where she will represent her country in the apparatus finals.
