RB Leipzig has bolstered their offensive line with the signing of Brazilian striker Romulo from Turkish side Göztepe Izmir. The 23-year-old forward has put pen to paper on a five-year deal, keeping him at the German club until 2030.

The transfer fee for Romulo is reported to be around €20 million plus bonuses, making it a significant investment for Leipzig. This deal marks a record fee for Göztepe, marking one of the highest transfers involving an Anatolian club and Turkish football in general.

Romulo's impressive form in the Turkish league caught the eye of Leipzig's sporting director, Marcel Schaefer. In the 2023-2024 Turkish Super Lig season, Romulo scored 13 goals and provided 9 assists in just 29 games. His versatility in attack, capable of playing as a classic number nine or in more varied roles, was particularly appealing to Leipzig.

The signing comes as a replacement for Benjamin Sesko, who was sold to Manchester United for €85 million. Leipzig's negotiations with Romulo's club were previously stalled due to interest from other clubs, but the Brazilian proved to be the perfect fit for their squad.

Romulo brings strong physicality, clean technique, and a pronounced goal-scoring instinct to Leipzig. His ability to adapt to different leagues and systems, demonstrated by his successful stints with Athletico Paranaense in Brazil and Göztepe in Turkey, was a significant factor in Leipzig's decision to sign him.

Göztepe have secured a clause to receive 10% of any future resale of Romulo. This could potentially increase the total cost of the transfer to €25 million.

Leipzig were also interested in Portuguese striker Fabio Silva, but Wolverhampton Wanderers demanded a transfer fee that was too high. In the end, Romulo proved to be the more cost-effective option, offering a promising future for the German club.

With Romulo on board, Leipzig fans can look forward to a more diverse and dynamic offense in the upcoming season. The Brazilian's addition to the squad is a clear sign that Leipzig are aiming high in their pursuit of success.
