In an exciting clash at Wolfsburg's Volkswagen Arena, VfL Wolfsburg managed to secure a 1-0 victory over defending champions RB Leipzig in the second round of the DFB-Pokal. The match, attended by 16,031 spectators, saw Wolfsburg demonstrate a strong performance, despite the absence of top scorer Jonas Wind due to Achilles tendon issues.

The breakthrough came in the 14th minute when Vaclav Cerny, recently signed by VfL Wolfsburg, capitalized on a pass from Tiago Tomas to score a powerful shot into the top corner. This marked Cerny's first goal for his new club and a crucial moment in the match.

Despite Leipzig's numerical disadvantage, following Yussuf Poulsen's red card in the 55th minute, the away team struggled to capitalize on their opportunities. Wolfsburg, on the other hand, squandered most of their counterattack chances due to sloppy passing.

Coach Kovac made eight changes to his team for the DFB-Pokal match compared to the Bundesliga loss at FC Augsburg. Kovac had stated before the match that they needed to handle Wind carefully, comparing his condition to a fragile egg. However, even with the late introduction of Wind, Leipzig could not create a clear chance to equalize.
