Romulo José Cardoso da Cruz, a 23-year-old Brazilian forward, has joined RB Leipzig from Turkish club Göztepe. The transfer, worth around 20-25 million euros including bonuses, secures Romulo's services at Leipzig until 2030 [1][2][3].

Known for his offensive versatility, strong physique, technical skill, and goal-scoring ability, Romulo is expected to lead and revitalize Leipzig's attacking line [1][2][3][5]. He can play as a classic number nine but also in flexible attacking roles to fit different tactical setups. His adaptability and previous success in Brazil and Turkey make him a promising addition to Leipzig’s frontline, especially following a season in which Leipzig missed European competitions and lost their key forward [1][2][3][5].

In his last season at Göztepe in the Turkish Süper Lig, Romulo had an impressive output with 17 league goals and around 10 assists, totaling approximately 22 goal involvements in 29 league appearances [1][3][5].

Sporting Director Marcel Schäfer highlighted Romulo’s ability to inject new life into Leipzig’s attack through his strong physique, technique, and goal sense. Romulo himself expressed enthusiasm for proving himself at the highest level in the Bundesliga, one of the world’s top leagues [2][5].

Romulo will wear the number 40 jersey and is expected to be a central figure in Leipzig’s attack under new manager Ole Werner as the team aims to rebuild and return to European football next season [1][3][4].

Changes in Leadership

Coach Ole Werner has appointed David Raum as the new captain of RB Leipzig for the upcoming season. The decision to make Raum the captain is part of a phase of renewal within the team, according to Werner [6]. Peter Gulacsi, who has been the captain since 2023, will continue to serve as the number one goalkeeper for RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga. In the cup, Maarten Vandevoort, a 13-year younger Belgian goalkeeper, will take over [6]. Xaver Schlager will serve as David Raum's deputy [6].

Upcoming Fixture

The first Bundesliga game for RB Leipzig is an away trip to champions Bayern Munich. Coach Ole Werner plans to field the best possible team for this highly anticipated match [7].
