LWB to build 800 new apartments in Leipzig next year - Leipzig’s first modular senior apartments break ground as 800+ homes planned by 2026

Leipzig’s municipal housing company, LWB, has started work on its first modular housing project. The development will provide 121 subsidised apartments for seniors. By 2026, the company aims to have over 800 new homes under construction using both modular and traditional methods.

The city’s decision to expand housing through modular construction was finalised earlier this year. LWB plans to build around 800 new apartments starting in 2023, with some using prefabricated techniques reminiscent of GDR-era panel buildings.

The first modular apartments for seniors are already in development. By 2026, LWB expects to have over 800 homes at various stages of construction. The approach combines modern efficiency with proven building techniques to address the city’s housing needs.
