Leipzig Book Fair Attracts with 2,000 Readings and Stars - Leipzig's 2026 Leipzig Reads Festival Unveils a Literary Extravaganza

Leipzig is preparing for its biggest literary celebration yet. The Leipzig Reads festival will take place from March 19 to 22, 2026, with over 2,000 events across the city. Organisers have already revealed the festival's motto: Where Stories Connect Us.

The four-day event will coincide with the 2026 Leipzig Book Fair, bringing together readers, writers, and publishers. Over 300 venues will host readings, discussions, and performances. The programme spans a wide range of genres, from light-hearted humour and thrillers to deeper explorations of societal issues.

Some of the participating authors have already been confirmed. Names like Daniela Katzenberger, Heinz Strunk, and Alice Schwarzer will appear alongside many others. While the full lineup remains under wraps for now, organisers have promised to publish it online on February 19.

Visitors can expect a mix of established voices and fresh perspectives. The festival aims to create spaces where stories—whether fictional or real—bring people together.

The Leipzig Reads festival will run alongside the city's annual book fair next spring. With thousands of events and hundreds of venues, it offers something for every kind of reader. More details, including the complete author list, will be available in mid-February.
