Ironman Series with New Germany Race: 70.3 in Leipzig - Leipzig to Host First Ironman 70.3 Race in 2023, Boosting Olympic Bid

Leipzig is set to host its first Ironman 70.3 race in 2023, adding to Germany's growing list of triathlon events. The city's Sports Councillor, Heiko Rosenthal, views this as a significant step towards its Olympic and Paralympic Games bid with Berlin.

The race, scheduled for August 23, 2023, will cover a 1.9 km swim in Lake Cospuden, followed by a 90 km cycle through Leipzig New Lakeland, and concluding with a 21.1 km run in the city center. Leipzig, home to renowned triathletes like Rico Bogen, Caroline Pohle, and Martin Schulz, is expected to provide a challenging and exciting course.

Germany will host a total of four half-distance Ironman races in 2023, with Leipzig joining Kraichgau, Duisburg, and Erkner near Berlin. This adds to the full-distance events in Hamburg and Frankfurt, demonstrating the country's commitment to the sport.

The debut of the Ironman 70.3 race in Leipzig in 2023 is anticipated to boost the city's profile as a sports destination.
