Leipzig's Handballers Extend Contracts with Left Wing Duo - Leipzig locks in captain Binder and rising star Koschek for next season

SC DHfK Leipzig has secured the futures of two key players by extending the contracts of left wings Lukas Binder and Tom Koschek. The club, which has faced a turbulent few seasons, is keeping its longest-serving player and a promising young talent for the upcoming campaign.

Lukas Binder, the 33-year-old captain, has spent 16 years at the club, making him its most experienced player. His new deal ensures he stays regardless of whether Leipzig remains in the Handball-Bundesliga or faces relegation. Head coach Frank Carstens highlighted Binder's consistent performances and reliability as vital for the team.

Meanwhile, 19-year-old Tom Koschek will continue on loan from VfL Gummersbach for another year. His extension adds depth to the left wing position as the club looks to stabilise its squad.

The team's recent history has been unpredictable. Over the past five seasons, Leipzig struggled in the top flight, finishing 18th (and being relegated) in 2020/21 and narrowly avoiding the drop in 16th place in both 2022/23 and 2023/24. In between, they dominated the 2. Bundesliga in 2021/22, winning all 38 matches to earn immediate promotion back to the elite division.

With Binder's leadership and Koschek's potential, Leipzig aims to strengthen its position in the league. The extensions signal the club's intent to build continuity after years of fluctuating between divisions. Both players will now prepare for the challenges of the upcoming season.
