Leipzig - Anticipation among fans of Leipzig's Christmas market has hit an all-time high, surpassing even the excitement for the first Kräppelchen. The Leipzig Market Office stirs the crowd with its newest offering - the new children's collector's mug for the 2023 Advent season. The fairytale forest series begins with Uncle Eagle Owl!
The city is no stranger to these images: seemingly infinite queues in front of the old town hall, folks enduring hours-long waits to secure a few cups. Even during the coronavirus pandemic, interest remained unwavering.
In 2022, Pittiplatsch graced the cup to commemorate his 60th birthday. According to Dr. Walter Eber, head of the market office, "The Sandman world will continue to captivate the children's cups at the Leipzig Christmas market in the coming years. However, Uncle Eagle Owl marks the start of a new series, featuring animals from the fairytale forest."
Pitting traditional favorites against newcomers
As Uncle Eagle Owl inaugurates this new series, other well-known characters are set to follow in the near future. The shape and color scheme remain reminiscent of previous motifs.
25,000 Uncle Eagle Owl mugs will be released on the market, with 15,000 of those available as deposit cups (4 euros) exclusively for non-alcoholic beverages at the mulled wine stands. The remainder will be available via the online store .
