Leicester City's midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, is officially transferred to Besiktas.
Besiktas Secures Nigerian Midfielder Wilfred Ndidi for €9.5 Million
Turkish football club Besiktas has announced the signing of Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi from Premier League side Leicester City. The transfer fee, according to multiple sources, is reported to be €9.5 million.
Ndidi, known for his energy, quick feet, and high pass accuracy, is expected to bring experience and quality to Besiktas' midfield. The transfer follows the departure of Gedson Fernandes to Spartak Moscow, although it was not directly mentioned as a direct consequence.
The 25-year-old midfielder is an experienced player, having joined Leicester City in January 2017 from Belgian club Genk. Over eight and a half seasons, he made 303 appearances, scoring 18 goals and providing 22 assists.
Besiktas moved quickly to strengthen its midfield after Fernandes' departure, with negotiations between the two clubs and Ndidi himself being successful for the transfer to take place. The midfielder arrived in Istanbul to complete his medical and sign his contract with Besiktas. He is set to sign a 3+1 year contract with the club.
After passing his medical tests, Ndidi will officially join Besiktas. He held a private meeting with head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer of Besiktas, indicating a positive start to his new journey in Turkey.
It's worth noting that Real Betis had an interest in signing Ndidi but failed to agree on a transfer fee with Leicester City. The transfer fee of €9.5 million is significantly lower than the reported €17.6 million ($20.56 million) that Real Betis was willing to pay.
The transfer of Wilfred Ndidi from Leicester City to Besiktas was announced via the Public Disclosure Platform. With this addition, Besiktas aims to bolster its squad and challenge for honours in the upcoming season.
