Lego theme park in Shanghai, China, officially welcomes visitors for the first time
The city of Shanghai, China, has become home to the world's largest Legoland park, marking a significant milestone for the beloved Lego brand. The much-anticipated Shanghai Legoland resort officially opened its gates to visitors on Saturday.
This new addition to the global Legoland family is the first of its kind in China and the 11th park worldwide. It joins esteemed company with Legoland parks located in Denmark, the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, and now, Shanghai.
The Shanghai Legoland resort, sprawling across a vast area, boasts eight theme parks and over 75 interactive rides and attractions, making it the biggest Legoland park in the world. One of the main highlights of the resort is Miniland, a meticulously crafted section featuring miniature replicas of famous landmarks from China and around the globe, all made from over 85 million Lego bricks.
Visitors can marvel at the intricate detail of Miniland's replicas, which include Beijing's Temple of Heaven and Shanghai's iconic Bund waterfront. Ji Yujia, a Lego enthusiast and one of the first visitors, described the experience as "a good recreation, like a real fairyland of Lego."
In addition to Miniland, the Shanghai Legoland resort offers a unique boat tour through a historic Chinese water town, built entirely from Lego bricks. The resort was developed in collaboration with the Shanghai government by Merlin Entertainments and the LEGO Group.
To celebrate the grand opening, visitors were treated to performances featuring Legoland characters. However, it's important to clarify that despite being the biggest in the Legoland family, the Shanghai resort is not the largest Legoland park in the world, a previous misconception.
Tickets for the Shanghai Legoland resort range from 319 yuan ($44) to 599 yuan ($84), making it an affordable family-friendly destination for residents and tourists alike. With its blend of LEGO-themed attractions, educational experiences, and fun-filled activities, the Shanghai Legoland resort promises to be a hit among both children and adults alike.
