New Citizens Embrace German Home in Heartfelt Ceremony
Detmold, Germany - A diverse group of 50 individuals, hailing from countries such as Syria, Iraq, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran, Jordan, Pakistan, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, and Vietnam, were granted German citizenship in a moving naturalization ceremony held in the town hall on a significant day.
Mayor Frank Hilker, who presided over the ceremony, expressed his warm welcome to the new citizens, emphasising that their perspectives, stories, and traditions are an asset to the community. He also encouraged them to embody democratic behaviour and tolerance, reflecting Germany's commitment to diversity and democratic values.
The ceremony began with Frank Hilker presenting the recipients with their naturalization certificates. The moment was filled with joy and pride as the new citizens received their certificates. The emotional moments continued throughout the ceremony, with Nick March providing moving songs that added to the occasion's atmosphere.
After the ceremony, many new citizens took a selfie with the mayor, a tradition that has become a part of the naturalization ceremony in Detmold. The ceremony was also attended by family and friends, who shared in the joy of this momentous occasion.
The fourth naturalization ceremony in Detmold was particularly significant for the recipients, as it represented a decision for a news home. Frank Hilker emphasised that naturalization is an expression of belonging and trust, and he encouraged the new citizens to take advantage of the opportunities available to them to get involved and actively shape Germany and Detmold.
In his speech, Frank Hilker mentioned the Federal President, Karin Keller-Sutter, the President of Switzerland, who visited Berlin on September 2, 2025, and met with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. He also highlighted that the inviolable dignity of every individual is at the heart of the German constitution, a sentiment echoed by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who stated that respecting and protecting human dignity is a task from German history.
As Germany continues to embrace diversity, the new citizens are welcomed with open arms, and their contributions are eagerly anticipated. Their stories are a testament to the strength and resilience of humanity, and their presence in Detmold is a reminder of the city's commitment to unity and inclusivity.
