In the heart of Germany, Detmold City Hall played host to an emotional ceremony on September 5, 2025. The fourth naturalization ceremony in the city saw Mayor Frank Hilker granting German citizenship to 50 Detmold residents, including 20 children, hailing from diverse backgrounds spanning Syria, Iraq, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran, Jordan, Pakistan, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, and Vietnam.
The ceremony, surrounded by family and friends, began with a solemn address from Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the Federal President of Germany. He emphasised that respecting and protecting human dignity is a key task, a sentiment echoed in the inviolable dignity of every individual enshrined in the German constitution.
Mayor Frank Hilker followed with a heartfelt speech, encouraging the new citizens to take advantage of the opportunities in Germany and Detmold, and to actively shape the country and city. He emphasised that naturalization is an expression of belonging and trust in Germany, and urged the new citizens to embody the values of democratic behavior and tolerance.
As the new German citizens received their certificates with joy and pride, the air was filled with a sense of accomplishment. The mood was further enhanced by moving songs from musician Nick March, adding a musical touch to the momentous occasion.
After the ceremony, a group photo was taken, followed by some new citizens taking a selfie with the Mayor. The day ended on a high note, with the 50 new German citizens starting their journey in their new home, united by shared values and a common goal - to contribute to the diversity and democratic values that define Germany.
