Oleg Shukher, Director and Artistic Head of VGIK's Creative and Methodological Center, Dies at 71 After Cardiac Arrest

Oleg Shukher, a film director and artistic director of the Creative and Methodological Center at the Russian State University of Cinematography (VGIK), has died in intensive care following cardiac arrest, TASS reports, citing his son.

Shukher passed away on Saturday at the age of 71.

"He died at 7:30 a.m. in the hospital," his son said.

Sources close to the director stated that the cause of death was cardiac arrest. He had been hospitalized the day before in critical condition. Doctors performed CPR, but efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

Born on March 31, 1954, Shukher worked as a director and screenwriter at Mosfilm and Chistye Prudy studios and collaborated with TV channels TVC, Rossiya, and Kultura.

His death follows that of Liquid Sky director Slava Tsukerman.

Shukher's filmography includes Lucky Girl, Old Young People, and Stories of the 20th Century.
