Former PBA Star LA Tenorio Takes on New Role as Coach

After a illustrious 19-year career as a floor general in the PBA, LA Tenorio is set to embark on a new journey as a coach. On Sunday, September 7, Tenorio will participate in his first official function as a full-time PBA coach during the PBA Season 50 rookie draft at the Mall of Asia Music Hall.

Tenorio, who earned the nickname "Iron Man" for not missing a game in his first 744 appearances, spanning a 17-year streak, has retired from active basketball competition. However, his legacy in the PBA remains unparalleled.

A 10-time All-Star, Four-time Finals MVP, and eight-time PBA champion, Tenorio's contributions to the league are undeniable. In 2024, he was named Comeback Player of the Year, a testament to his resilience and determination.

Tenorio's journey was not without its challenges. In 2019, he battled and beat Stage 3 colon cancer. His victory over the disease was a source of inspiration for many, showcasing his indomitable spirit.

In a heartfelt farewell to his PBA career, written on September 6, Tenorio expressed his gratitude to Ginebra's fans for their support during the team's ups and downs. He also emphasised his intention to carry the spirit of "Pusong Ginebra" and "Pusong NSD" (never say die) with him in his new role.

Tenorio's message was written in a mix of English and Filipino, reflecting his deep connection with the fans and the league. He also expressed his gratitude to his teammates, coaches, and everyone who supported him throughout his career.

Despite his new role as a coach, there is no information available about Tenorio taking over as a full-time coach after ending his active basketball career. However, it is clear that he will bring the same passion, determination, and spirit that defined his playing career to his new role.

Currently, Tenorio is the coach of Gilas Pilipinas Men Youth, where he continues to inspire the next generation of PBA players. As he steps into his new role as a coach, Tenorio is poised to make a significant impact on the league that he has called home for so long.
