Legendary Liverpool footballer, Alexander Arnold, ascends to royal ranks.
Liverpool FC Legend Trent Alexander-Arnold Joins Real Madrid, Sparking Controversy
Football fans and former coach Jürgen Klopp are embroiled in a dispute following Trent Alexander-Arnold's move from Liverpool FC to Real Madrid. The English national player, who spent 20 years with the Reds, is now set to join forces with Antonio Rüdiger.
The transfer deal has been finalized, as announced by Real Madrid. Alexander-Arnold has agreed to a contract that will last until 2031. He could make his debut as early as the Club World Cup in the USA, scheduled from June 14 to July 13. Liverpool has confirmed the transfer and refused to disclose the transfer fee, although media reports suggest it's around 10 million euros. With Alexander-Arnold's contract set to expire on June 1, he would have been free to leave without compensation.
Alexander-Arnold, who started playing for Liverpool's youth team at the age of six, has amassed nine titles with the club, including the 2019 Champions League under Klopp. Recently, Klopp voiced his displeasure over the fans' initially negative reaction to Alexander-Arnold's departure.
During a home game against Arsenal two weeks ago, Klopp took issue with the booing directed at Alexander-Arnold. Following the incident, Klopp told the English newspaper "Liverpool Echo" that he turned off the TV when he heard the boos. He expressed disappointment over the behavior of Liverpool's fans, noting that it was incongruous with the club's values.
Alexander-Arnold's arrival at Real Madrid marks the second new signing for their defense this season. Madrid had previously secured the services of Spanish national player Dean Huijsen for approximately 60 million euros from AFC Bournemouth. At Real, Alexander-Arnold will join his English national team colleague Jude Bellingham, but not the Real legend Luka Modric, who recently said his goodbyes.
