Fashion Designer Paul Costelloe Dies - Irishman Became Famous Through Outfits of Lady Di - Legendary Irish designer Paul Costelloe, Princess Diana’s stylist, dies at 78

Renowned Irish fashion designer Paul Costelloe has died at the age of 78. Known for his elegant womenswear, he became one of Ireland’s most celebrated figures in the industry. His work spanned over four decades, with a lasting presence at London Fashion Week.

Born in Dublin in 1945, Costelloe began his career in Paris, working for prestigious fashion houses. He later moved to Milan, where he designed collections for Marks & Spencer. By the 1980s, he had established himself as a leading name in luxury womenswear.

His most famous collaboration was with Princess Diana. From 1983 until her death in 1997, he styled the princess, helping shape her into a global fashion icon. Costelloe once described Diana as 'very down-to-earth,' noting she never carried herself like royalty.

After retiring from fashion, he planned to explore a new passion. His next chapter involved a road trip through France, where he intended to focus on painting.

Costelloe leaves behind a legacy as one of Ireland’s most influential designers. His work with Princess Diana and his long-standing presence in fashion cemented his reputation. His later years were set to be filled with creativity in a different form—through art.
