In a sad turn of events, American country singer Jeannie Seely has passed away at the age of 85. The news was reported by US media, with the cause of death being complications from an infection.

Born in Titusville, Pennsylvania, in 1940, Seely began her career in music at a young age, performing on radio. Before transitioning to a full-time music career, she worked in an office in California.

Seely's career in the country scene took off in the mid-1960s. She gained widespread recognition for her powerful vocals and unique style, earning her a Grammy for Best Female Country Vocal Performance in 1966 for her song "Don't Touch Me."

Throughout her career, Seely placed over a dozen titles in the US Top 40 country hits. One of her most notable collaborations was with Jack Greene. Together, they formed a celebrated duet partnership in the late 1960s and early 1970s, scoring several Top 10 hits. Their highest-charting single was "Wish I Didn’t Have to Miss You," from 1969. Other successful duet singles with Greene include "Much Oblige" (1971) and "What in the World Has Gone Wrong With Our Love" (1972).

Seely made history by becoming the first woman to host the Grand Ole Opry show regularly. She performed on the legendary Grand Ole Opry stage for decades, leaving an indelible mark on country music.

Seely's death occurred in Hermitage, a suburb of Nashville. The report about her passing was confirmed by her management.
